about

In the spring of 1994 (just after finishing their freshman year finals), four friends loaded up their gear (and a bong) and headed from northwest Indiana to Demarest, NJ, to record an album with underground impresario Kramer. Their number one request was to get the kinda reverb that Kramer smothered all over the Galaxie 500 recordings. I, Sharko drew from the obvious well of ’60’s psych, added influences from bands of the era (Loop, Spacemen 3, Ride, Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers) and mixed guitar/ organ freakouts with poppy, sing-along vocal melodies. At the time, there were very few bands in the Chicago area that were playing psychedelic music (a local review mentioned the band having ‘Syd Barrett on xanax dementia tendencies that needed to be reigned it’. I took that as a compliment was stoked to be COMPARED to Syd Barrett. I think I even wrote to the reviewer and said that Syd took mandrax, not xanax and to get his historical drugs straight.

Anyhow, I’m very proud of this album that 4 wide eyed 18 year old kids recorded over 25 years ago, and it remains the blueprint of all I have done since.
